You see us refer to the Epic âcommunityâ a lot. Organizations like Advocate Health Care are the reason why. This month, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Guy's and St Thomas'â NHS Foundation Trust went live on Epic, marking the largest single go-live anywhere in the world. As a large, experienced user of Epic, Advocate saw an opportunity to lend a hand to their new peers. More than 100 Advocate teammates made the trip across the pond. âWeâre proud to share our teamâs expertise because we know firsthand how helpful it can be to have an experienced mentor when implementing and learning a new technology system,â said Advocate Health Chief Information Officer Bobbie Byrne. âWe may be separated by an ocean, but our London counterparts share our commitment to using technology to help provide patients with the highest-quality care possible.â

To make childcare an easier option for patients, healthcare workers, and first responders, our friends at Parkland Health collaborate with Annie's Place to offer onsite childcare at no cost. When patients miss appointments, Parkland sends a survey through MyChart to better understand why. If childcare was a factor, Parkland automatically points them to Annieâs Place. Similar messages appear in After Visit Summaries for parents who arenât yet enrolled in the program. Parkland and Annieâs Place then use Epic to facilitate referrals and facilitate communication between healthcare providers, the childcare center, and parents. In 2.5 years, the program has cared for more than 3,000 children and currently has more than 500 families enrolled. Congrats, folks!
In response to the nursing shortage facing healthcare providers across the country, our friends at Guthrie shifted to a virtual, team-based approach to nursing that extends the reach of their bedside nurses and creates a culture of collaboration. At the core of this approach is a virtual command center, which gives bedside nurses round-the-clock support from experienced colleagues. In addition to helping them meet the needs of patients, nurses, and providers, Guthrie estimates that virtual nursing saves them more than $7 million per year. Congrats, folks!

This fall, nursing students at Boise State University will have a new classmate đ Through a partnership with St. Luke's Health System, the Boise State nursing program is bringing a sandbox version of Epicâwhich includes no real patient dataâto the schoolâs Simulation Center, giving students plenty of experience with the software that theyâll use in real-world clinical scenarios.
