“I was doing ‘reactive’ work. We were called once there was a problem. I didn't want to do that all the time so I made contacts and developed relationships. That’s how I got onto more proactive projects.” —Hallisy Beth Bruchs, Chicago
“At the end of my rotation — I did two years in the London office — we said we are going to take a few weeks off and go travel, and everyone in the London office was like, ‘You are crazy. Why are you only taking three weeks? That is not a real vacation. Why don’t you take a leave of absence and do some traveling?’ The more I thought about it the more appealing it became, so we got an around-the-world ticket from British Airways and took off for five months.” —Brian Kunisch, New York
Know your stuff and leave the fluff: "Candidates should take a minimum of 30 minutes to review information about Deloitte as well as the job posting itself. During the interview we typically discover if a candidate has really done his or her homework, and we can also tell if they’ve fabricated some facts or embellished a bit more on their actual experience so it’s best to be honest."
“To be completely honest, in the beginning of my junior year I had no idea, I just knew I wanted an accounting internship. I interviewed with a few of the firms and then I got a random phone call from my career counselor asking me if she could forward my resume to Deloitte & Touche LLP. I said, ‘Sure, of course.’ And I got an interview for the mentorship program, which is where Deloitte takes college students to three events over the summer to provide an opportunity to interact with professionals. Ultimately that’s how I got my internship in 2011.”

“I think that Deloitte provides an opportunity for you to create your own career path. And it’s funny. You hear a lot about that when you are in recruiting mode, but I have been able to live it now and know it’s not just lip service. When I came back from maternity leave, I decided I didn’t want to be on the road as I had been. So I looked for ways to reinvent myself — still within Deloitte – but with the goal of not getting on an airplane every Monday morning. My network was supportive and excited to share a multitude of opportunities." — Caroline Schoenecker, McLean

“Always have a point of view. Even if others do not agree with you. The fact that you have a point of view – they tend to listen and respect it.” — Arbin Smith, Chicago
“First and foremost, the flexibility and ever-changing environment is what I enjoy. I often work from client offices a few days a week. I could be at 30 Rock or I could work from home. I love helping different clients and travelling to new cities. I love facing new challenges and problems every week. I love that we have constant eminence opportunities and can help in the marketplace.” -- Lauren Jarvis, New York
