Pros

Salaried employees are compensated pretty well compared to industry averages, at least in my experience. There are often opportunities to move around a lot internally. Benefits are decent enough compared to other companies (used to be better but have been going downhill with the new CEO and all the company's recent financial setbacks). If you need a job, there are much worse options here in America (sadly...), which is about the best I can say.

Cons

You're working for a bloodsucking corporation, at least in the eyes of most Americans. If you have a conscience/a soul, working here will eat away at you the more exposed you are to what UHG cares most about (making profit line go up, giving big comp packages to upper management, and maintaining the status quo at all costs--NOT "making the health system work better for everyone"). The recent cuts to benefits, the forced RTO policy, the many rounds of layoffs, and the no-raises of the last couple years (plus the many high-profile lawsuits, the Change Healthcare disaster, etc.) speak for themselves: you're expendable and the company doesn't care who it hurts in its relentless pursuit of ever-growing profit. This is especially true now that UHG is pushing AI for everyone and everything. They will not hesitate to automate your job (they asked an employee to "train the AI agent," then laid them off 2 weeks after improvements were offered and training finished). Corporate has some good people and, unfortunately, a whole lot of bad apples (catty types who believe in rules for thee but not for me). It's a low-trust, high-anxiety environment, and it definitely feels like most people just work there for the money. Disruptive thinkers are not really encouraged or rewarded. People advance by sucking up to the right leaders and ruthlessly outmaneuvering rivals. Think Game of Thrones. If you have other options, think long and hard before you come to work here.
