Culture has taken a dive.

Pros

Great product. Some great people.

Cons

Every since the new CTO came in and brought along multiple VP's from Wells Fargo the culture shifted dramatically. Things used to be exciting and engineering focused, and now it's very toxic. Blameless post mortems went out the window and work life balance is gone. The CTO's response has basically been "deal with it". The new leadership crew think they are improving the company but it's because they don't have the technical understanding or empathy to realize that their ideas are poor and no one wants to work with them when they treat everyone like dirt (including vendors).

Firstly, thank you for your many years as a dedicated Toaster. We could not have accomplished all that we have without the great team that brings our mission to life. At Toast, we believe that feedback is a gift, so I thank you for sharing your concerns here. The R&D leadership team is committed to empowering employees and setting our customers up for success As we grow and scale, changes can be expected, but we will always remain true to our core values. Since your review indicates that you're a current employee, I am hopeful that we can discuss your concerns further. I am personally committed to our culture and the experience of every Toaster on my team so please reach out to me directly, or your manager, or your People Success Partner so that we can best support you. - Debra Chrapaty, CTO

Pros

From a business point of view, they are growing rapidly. This generates a feeling of excitement & optimism with opportunities to shine at every turn. From a product point of view, customers are in love. Toast is an amazing product and is being invested into heavily. You can be confident that what they have is truly game changing. From a culture point of view, Toast goes out of its way to ensure employee happiness as well as investing into communities.

Cons

Rapid growth = some pain points. Naturally. If you thrive in an upstart environment and can be flexible and resourceful, this is the place for you. If you need everything spell out clearly and refuse to do anything outside of your job description, this is not yet the company for you.

High Turnover in Sales

Business Outlook

Pros

Toast truly is the best restaurant technology solution out there. And one that cares about the success of its customers. Ability to create your own schedule. Unlimited PTO, if you can take the time off. Benefits start Day 1.

Cons

Monthly quota that is pretty much unattainable if your territory falls outside of a major city hub- same quota across the org regardless of market trends. End of month "push" makes you feel like a used car salesman- basically do whatever you can to just get the deal. Burnout is fast and real. Angry customers have no other direct number to call but you, the AE. Customer Care has definitely gotten better, but we all know how customers are... Be prepared to battle with Salesforce daily - everything is always breaking due to the new processes and functionalities they create with CPQ/quoting tool. Doesn't feel like leadership is listening to their AE's. Not sure where the gap is, but AE's are definitely voicing their concerns to DM's and some even have connected with RVP's, but the only thing that has changed is high AE turnover.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I'm disappointed to read that you don't feel heard by our leadership team. Transparency and partnership are critical to our success, and we regularly look for new ways to encourage employees to share feedback. While we are actively growing our teams to alleviate some of this pressure, I recognize that this role presents many unique challenges. I'd encourage you to set up some time with me, your manager, or your People Success Partner to discuss solutions. We are all here to support you. - Joe Starzec, VP of Sales
