Pros
Pays a bit above minimum wage, store has a lot of fun and unusual products, very good quality produce and anything from deli is very flavorful and delicious, 10% discount for money loaded onto a card for store use. The orientation at the beautiful store in West Sac leads you to think you're in good hands, and maybe the RAVE culture and practices work well down the hill, but it went all wrong at the store in Cameron Park.
Cons
Oh boy, where do I start? I began hating this place and looking for another job on my days off after three months. Very cliquey store. If you aren't a skinny, attractive, and act like working at a grocery store is your dream job, dont expect to fit in with the other stuck up female workers. Some of the lifers, or career associates are very sorry and treat you like a child if you have worked there for less than a year and don't know a particular procedure or know where an item it in the store that isn't commonly bought. The management is very peppy and fake and calls you pet names like "baby doll" and "love" no matter who you are. When people quit or are fired, they are very hush-hush about where they go, and when I put in my two weeks I was encourage not to tell other employees but two also put in their two weeks' notice within the same month that I did. You aren't allowed to have a life because schedules are all over the place. One week you'll have five days, some shifts only seven hours apart, and the next you'll have only three or four days, even if you've been there for years, at least in the front-end department because you're easily replaceable and they're constantly hiring even when there are enough clerks and checkers. They expect you to bend over backwards for world class service and barely pay you above minimum wage. All the "rah, rah, rah, we're a great company to work for " brainwashing wouldn't be repeated so much if it was actually a great place to work. The career associates age prematurely and are stressed and barely able to live above poverty. I was anxious and uncomfortable and suffered from headaches from worrying about work when I wasn't working the check stand, and woke up with aching arches in my feet and suffered from back aches at night. The job made me feel isolated from my friends and family because I wasn't able to plan anything with my schedule being all over the place. Guests constantly complain about the chip reader and having to charge for bags even though I just worked there and had no control over it . The job was very monotonous and every day was the same as the day before, and before. I ended up leaving and starting my new job early and since I quit working for Nugget Markets, my headaches and anxiety are no more.
