Cons
I was hired under confusing terms. I interviewed for a specialized position based on my prior experience, but was instead placed in an entry-level role with a slightly higher wage than they would normally give which was revoked a few days later via phone call. I reluctantly stayed, only to be assigned to the exact position I originally interviewed for, without the appropriate compensation.
Promised full-time hours and consistent raises never materialized. As store performance declined, my hours were quietly cut with no communication. When I raised concerns, I was met with frustration rather than support.
Advancement and promotions often appeared to favor younger employees who matched a specific image, rather than those with skill or experience. Performance seemed secondary to personality and appearance.
There’s a strong culture of selling employees on the idea of long-term careers. Many, including myself, invested years expecting growth and stability, only to find ourselves underpaid and underdeveloped. It left several of us feeling misled and unprepared for better-paying opportunities elsewhere.
The company has shifted its recruiting pitch to focus on “fun at work” perks like rafting trips, while competitors promote clear wage increases and higher starting pay. Overall if you work for this company or want to be in this business I would make it a very quick exit before 2 years. The company doesn’t have a bright future with an increasing number of competitors offering lower prices they are forced to take a page from other grocers; less labor and more profits. In the end you will likely end up behind career wise, over worked, have a lower wage than your peers, and struggle to pay the bills.
