I went through a technical screening over the phone consisting of a coding test in Codepad and some basic interview questions from 2 engineers. They offered to conduct the test in the PHP programming language because I had the most experience with PHP, but I took it in Python, the language they preferred.
I ended up passing every exercise in the coding test. And I did so quickly. I even refactored my code in numerous places upon request and to their complete satisfaction. I even wrote a piece of code that the lead interviewer found particularly intricate.
As for the interview questions, they let me kill a few minutes some light-hearted preaching about software development management - which was of course beyond the scope of the position. They seemed interested and amused by my opinions. They interviewers were relaxed, friendly, and good-natured throughout.
That night, I received an email saying that they enjoyed meeting me, felt I was a strong candidate, but decided to proceed with others that were a better fit skill-wise.
Never in the interview/screening did we talk about my various skills or even my resume.
The only thing I will note is that it was clearly apparent that I was about 20 years older than the interviewers.
