What is a Slot Technician?

Slot technicians are commonly found in casinos and other gaming establishments. They repair, maintain and install slot machines and see to it that the machines are following industry regulations. Additionally, a slot technician will oversee the repair of machines by ordering parts and working with management to provide cost estimates for lager repairs. Additional responsibilities include keeping detailed records of maintenance and up to date certifications. Many who hold this position have a background in the technology industry and possess a keen understanding of computer software and hardware.

Most slot technicians have a high school diploma. However, many larger businesses require additional education and professional certifications. An ideal candidate for a slot technician will have a proactive approach to their work and actively seek ways to improve. Responsibilities for Slot Technician

  • Work alongside management to assist in resolving customer concerns with problems regarding slot machines
  • Provide regular inspections of all slot machines and casino games to ensure there has been no tampering or otherwise illegal attempts to alter machines
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and technical troubleshooting of all gaming machines within the casino
  • Organize and properly account for all paperwork and certifications pertaining to required maintenance, updates and ordering of parts
  • Monitor and program machine CPU boards to legal regulation standards for a variety of machines
  • Move and reinstall slot machines as needed when casino floor plans are revised
  • Aware of surroundings and mindful of attempts to tamper with slots machines or the defrauding of the casino
  • Keep detailed records of all machine inventory, required upgrades and parts

Qualifications for Slot Technician

  • Work effectively with casino managers to provide preventative maintenance to all machines
  • Experience updating slot machine software and general knowledge of software is essential
  • Previous experience monitoring and maintaining an active database of all slot machine inventory as well as maintenance history and updates
  • Technical experience in repairing and ordering parts needed to properly maintain all machines
  • Ability to accurately provide supervisors with repair assessments and estimates
  • Strong customer service background as the employee will likely be interacting with customers when addressing maintenance issues
  • Technology background preferred in order to troubleshoot common problems with slot machines
  • Personal accountability and ability to keep detailed records of machine inventory, updates and parts
  • Prior experience in working in the gaming industry or with slot machines is strongly preferred
